Ol' Justy. I feel like I'm the only person who really loves this album. It might just be the bias of it being the first thing I'd heard from Geno after discovering his documentary series, but there's something about this one that continues to captivate me. Favorite track: Recluse.

Let Me Be 08:36
Excuse me, can I have a little second of your time? This would only take a little while, and then you’ll see A better me, a different someone Sorry, I promise this won’t take very long Afterwards you may carry on and do What there is to do with me Crawling all over; this feeling; it’s over But there’s still one matter, I must take care of Don’t know if you heard this much, don’t really care I’m not asking for long, I just want long enough, just Let me be, maybe you can see There’s something that I’ve gotta do, for so long I’ve been meaning to To bring myself to a special one, before my chance is gone Wish her luck and all the rest, tell her that she knows her best And stand strong and clear in my mind So let me be, bring me back where I came from Bring me back for a day, till I find the right words to say Been looking for for so long, but every moment I took was so wrong If I don’t ever come back to that place I guess we know the score, I’m final in my race So there, I guess you have it, you know of my intentions So why you hold me up and tie me down, and why that frown? What’s a day gonna do to your business? Crawling all over; this feeling; it’s over But there’s still one matter, I must take care of Don’t know if you heard it all, don’t really care I’m not asking for long, I just want long enough, just Let me be, maybe you can see There’s something that I’ve gotta do, for so long I’ve been meaning to To bring myself to a special one, before my chance is gone Wish her luck and all the rest, tell her that she knows her best And stand strong and clear in my mind So let me be, bring me back where I came from Bring me back for a day, till I find the right words to say Been looking for for so long, but every moment I took was so wrong If I don’t ever come back to that place I guess we know the score, I’m final in my race Fire, burning inside, a burning, a passion for life For all my trouble and strife, a reason to try, a fighting chance, a yearning to cry For all my wasted hours, perished in a fog, of disillusion, gone into the darkness Floating away from me, further from my grip, silently, I couldn’t follow, even if I wanted Heading for disaster, ever faster, ahead of me, so far, can’t even see My hand before me, locked away Crawling all over me, this feeling I can’t shake off, I’m crawling ever nearer It’s telling me there’s a matter, I must take care of Don’t if you heard any of this before, I don’t really care I’m not asking for long, I don’t need all that much I just want long enough, just Let me be, maybe you can see There’s something that I’ve gotta do, for so long I’ve been meaning to To bring myself to a special one, before my chance is gone Wish her luck and all the rest, tell her that she knows her best And stand strong and clear in my mind So let me be, bring me back where I came from Bring me back for a day, till I find the right words to say Been looking for for so long, but every moment I took was so wrong If I don’t ever come back to that place I guess we know the score, I’m final in my race

The lights don’t reach there alone, If the guide is absent or can’t reach the phone Or the security guard is asleep on the job If he had a bad night’s rest; corn on the cob It’s not a splendid sight To walk it alone in the middle of the night Without a hand to hold onto If you plan a visit, be two I’ll keep falling like an echo to climb The highest cliffs like churches chime I’ll keep searching for the river’s sky I don’t know why, do I really have a chance to Find an alley with a reindeer Alone and lost without a keeper Falling through a crack in the sky Til I’m crawling home and dry Take a sugar with two milk If it makes you feel like a dirty silk Listen to your living room sing out The secrets and the lies you keep out The snake would eat a snake If it appetized on a well-done steak Before it left for work that day And fell asleep on the job I’ll keep falling like an echo to climb The highest cliffs like churches chime I’ll keep searching for the river’s sky I don’t know why, do I really have a chance to Find an alley with a reindeer Alone and lost without a keeper Falling through a crack in the sky Til I’m crawling home and dry I’ll keep falling like an echo to climb The highest cliffs like churches chime I’ll keep searching for the river’s sky I don’t know why, do I really have a chance to Find an alley with a reindeer Alone and lost without a keeper Falling through a crack in the sky Til I’m crawling home and dry

Under the valley and over the hedge Keeping the secrets we were fed Over the seasons, over the clouds We see the infinity of hungry mouths Under the counter and over the hand We bear witness to the music stand Under the weather, under the sun Absolution hasn’t begun Search beneath the foliage to uncover yourself Find all the mysteries history unread Under the hands where we all stand Stand proud of our tortured eyes All glazed in a thick coat of wool Remove if you will, we’ll all be the fool Never ask a question; it will cost your life Your master man will keep you alive Show the world you have nothing to hide Wear the hides of the friends who died Listen to the people they have something to say All they ever say is they are gay Never known a man as great as you Never fear brother, I will always be true Never heard such a powerful name So strong and proud, none the same My life for you, you’ll surely tame My child’s first word will be your name Search beneath the foliage to uncover yourself Find all the mysteries history unread

Recluse 08:50
Everyday frozen in frames, living living out of magazines Still I try to do my best, but leave all the rest I’m still getting to know why I am what I see I keep to my own affairs, lost in meaningless chores and cares But they keep telling me why, why I shouldn’t be me Why my way to be is of no relation to theirs’ I’m doing what I do best, writing songs and lyrics, all the rest Never even a thought to refuse what I was born to do Just thinking ‘bout words, be they solemn or jest I keep on playing what I like, complicated music every night Hope they don’t try to make me sing a different tune, cause I am a recluse, only playing by the rules Always afraid to be the fool And never around for long I spend many tired hours, gazing up at the tranquil sky As many worries in mind as the clouds floating by Cause life can change you in the blink of an eye I grew up way too fast, had my future planned; built to last You could say that it was a mistake, and it’s my life to take I am a recluse, only playing by the rules Always afraid to be the fool And never around for long I am a recluse, and I live how I choose Do it my own way, to keep my fears at bay I am a recluse, always on a lookout for you Far beyond my mind, there’s a peace I hope to find All of these familiar routines clothe themselves in different shades of green But there’s no point to ignore what I’m covering for Lack of security so very seldom seen So I’m closing pages of my book, never seen again, no second look Still there’s a little time left to make amends, but I am a recluse, only playing by the rules Always afraid to be the fool And never around for long I am a recluse, doing it alone is how I choose Easy come and easy go, so I won’t stay here for long Paying my debts, day after day, always letting my life get in the way But there are still people to be spoken to, and still some time for an overview Keeping in mind the things I do, never something that you shouldn’t do Not everyone can fit into a mold, and it hurts like hell when you have to fold I’m a recluse, only living by the rules, I do it my way to keep it away I’m a recluse, I’m on a lookout for you, cause beyond my mind there is hope to find I’m a recluse, and it’s how I choose, if I don’t cross the line then I’ll be fine Paying my debts, day after day, always letting my life get in the way But there are still people to be spoken to, and still some time for an overview Keeping in mind the things I do, never something that you shouldn’t do Not everyone can fit into a mold, and it hurts like hell when you have to fold I’m a recluse, only living by the rules, I do it my way to keep it away I’m a recluse, I’m on a lookout for you, cause beyond my mind there is hope to find I’m a recluse, and it’s how I choose, if I don’t cross the line then I’ll be fine

Breathin' 05:22
Another day, another dollar One more walk on the mile, one more cold shower It’s happening again; another finished routine Since I can’t remember when Selling all the hours I have to the men upstairs Keeping track of the clock ticking I guess they must be thankful for somethin’ That I’m still breathin’ So long, Funnytown, I won’t see you around It’s all straight-faced in here, there is plenty to fear And stop your weary pace; you’ve reached the place Where all you dreams come back for you to see The smiles on our faces are all just for show But it’s only on a basis of a need-to-know A round of applause for the guy in charge Carry along his load, he will pay you in the afterlife Another brick carried to the top Another cigarette dropped Familiar sights seem to sink in And slowly summon sin Open forests in my soul Don’t let us form as single whole But I guess it doesn’t matter that much While I’m still breathin’ So long, Funnytown, I won’t see you around It’s all straight-faced in here, there is plenty to fear And stop your weary pace; you’ve reached the place Where all you dreams come back for you to see The smiles on our faces are all just for show But it’s only on a basis of a need-to-know A round of applause for the guy in charge Carry along his load, he will pay you in the afterlife Riding seamless waves seems so easy Getting more attention than I should Across the hallway, a cool cool breeze Cools me down for a while Before I open the door I take a deep breath, and sigh

Wild Traci 13:52
A young girl walked up to the older one, said, “Can I have some books?” Then she opened up an empty satchel, to which she got curious looks Bewildered, she gathered her forces, and led the young girl away She pointed a crooked finger to the place where nothing gold can stay She heard screaming from the tombs that were either for sale or for rent She decided she couldn’t hear and straight she went She met a man who wore a mustache on his head, she said, “Whatever that’s for?” To which he promptly replied, “It keeps me away from the door” She encountered a queer-looking woman, playing her turquoise Fender Who lived on a diet of flies, to keep herself safe and slender The young girl finally peered in into the hollow catacombs She heard foreign words uttered from the dark, “matte kudasai” Wild, Wild Traci, you keep falling through the door Why go wasting, your time on a simple bore? Wild, Wild Traci, you go knocking where you shouldn’t So try and hold back, the urge to find out what you don’t understand She looked for answers in blackened hardback books, with no titles While weary eyes peered at her, from a safe distance She was all alone in a house of stone, devoid of rivals Her fingers hungered for the yellow pages of an old man The mute jazz band in the corner, began to play nothing It filled the room with the music of silence; the sound of joy It fell on her head as if by chance, it was the one she sought after She paved no way for the grimy man on the other side of the wall She found a loud place to sit in peace and gather her thoughts She pondered what she would do if they were caught A secret scripture matured, by a sentry of neglect Only a few stones’ throws away, a mannequin wept Wild, Wild Traci, you keep falling through the door Why go wasting, your time on a simple bore? Wild, Wild Traci, you go knocking where you shouldn’t So try and hold back, the urge to find out what you don’t understand She caressed the cover, of an undetermined author And found that he was coarse to the skin She dared not look ahead a single page, a solitary line to sin From first word to the last, she uncovered her past, it made sense to her Her heart skipped a beat, at every mention of His name Everything she was taught, was not given a thought Broken down one by one, under her blazing sun His distorted words, made a sentence never heard She became confused, then enraged For her father, of long ago, now eternally caged Subtle gleams of perspiration riddled her face Like a burning man at his end of days, and the rhythm changed She tried to divulge those lies, of an imminent paradise in favor of a bowl of rice Her tortured soul saw too much for one to hold So she clutched tight to the moldy book, closed her eyes, let out a scream, and let go Peering eyes came closer still, even those o’er the windowsill Canyoned fingertips inspect the pristine one Arrival has begun She opened her eyes and was welcomed by the loved and lost She counted her fingers and found that they matched the cost She soon found that there wasn’t much to fear, soon enough, they lit the candles in the wind Music to hears, hailed from the sun, a storm of merry men, honored the stage Wild, Wild Traci, Wild, Wild Traci You keep falling through the door Wild, Wild Traci, Wild, Wild Traci Why go wasting, your time on a simple bore? Wild, Wild Traci, Wild, Wild Traci, Wild, Wild Traci You go knocking where you shouldn’t Wild, Wild Traci, Wild, Wild Traci Try and hold back, the urge to find out what you don’t understand Come right in, come right in, we’ve been waiting for you, we can show you around Hope you like, hope you like it so far

Searchlights 07:08
I’ve been feeling those searchlights, they’re coming up behind me I was following moonlight, and suddenly, I was a wanted man Just minding my own business when I see me on the TV All of a sudden there’s a million lights like I’m from some far exotic land Calling out for a friendly face, can you help me out, I’m without a trace A warm embrace is for what I ache, but I can’t get a hold of you Those searchlights are leading me away from you Those searchlights are leading me away from you Those searchlights are leading me away from danger Those searchlights are so near I’ve been watching those headlights, they’re coming up ahead If I don’t make a move any time soon, they’ll see me dead Maybe I’d be better off, away from the faces chasing me Away from those searchlights shining behind I’m calling out for a friendly face, can you help me out, I’m without a place A warm embrace is for what I ache, but I can’t get a hold of you Those searchlights are leading me away from you Those searchlights are leading me away from danger Those searchlights are so near Those searchlights are leading me away… Cos I am leading those searchlights, leading those searchlights…

Syracuse 12:09
Summer glistens off your shoulder Can’t wait any longer, dreaming of a lover It’s too late; nobody at the gate Fire lurking round the place, looking for souls to take Different seasons, seeking shelter From the storm, coming in from the firelight Waning memories, homeless wandering In the city, hiding away from the bright night Coldest mornings, banish all the hate we have Before the dawning of a new day, gets in our way Falling over, broken shadows Hiding from the situation, thoughts you shouldn’t say Follow me to the ends of time, you’ll be fine, it’s just a matter of crime Calling forth this history, we will live in infamy Syracuse this fantasy, bring me back, to reality Carry me over to density, hold my hand and you will see Dying hunger, far beyond your wildest dreams Crazy faces, shapes tearing at the seams Darkness rising, high above our expectations Of what we know, don’t elevate our generation Follow me to the ends of time, you’ll be fine, it’s just a matter of crime Calling forth this history, we will live in infamy Syracuse this fantasy, bring me back, to reality Carry me over to density, hold my hand and you will see Smooth sailing from horizon, new ways to keep my mind off the hunger Mistaking my desires, take away my sunny liars Making good time all the way, gonna be sundown when we reach the bay Fortify my defenses, I got no other secret senses to keep me company (Fly away, far away, far from, all we know, don’t be late, it’s just one way) Catch a sliver of hope, it’s a new day; all out of soap; opera Soon be thy moment of truth, full marks, you amateur sleuth; Bogart Take it easy, soon enough, you’re time will come and you will follow Many perished souls who follow, one ole’ single crimson way Follow me to the ends of time, you’ll be fine, it’s just a matter of crime Calling forth this history, we will live in infamy Syracuse this fantasy, bring me back, to reality Carry me over to density, hold... Looks like you’re all out of luck, check your pockets; you’re missing a buck Better take better care of yourself; you don’t be careful, you may need some help You’re not alone in this time of sorrow, ask for pleas and will beg to borrow Run yourself with a bow and arrow, shoot through the heart; there will be no tomorrow (Down memory lane, it’s always the same)
